I painted this scene of Kumamoto Castle and Samurai Kumamon on location in Kumamoto City, while sitting under this historic and beautiful castle.
There is a big Samurai Kumamon statue that serves as the guardian of the shrine next to the castle. I love this mish-mash of history with modernity, and the dignified castle with the derpiness of Kumamon!
